Today the students took an open note quiz over WWII and then they reviewed for their social studies midterm exam. What they need to know is in their notebooks.

The students began taking notes today about World War II. We will continue the notes tomorrow and Wednesday if necessary and then watch a video about Pearl Harbor, due to the anniversary on December 7.

The students began learning about Japan yesterday by reading section one from the textbook and filling in their notes. We finished the notes today and will continue with a video about Japan tomorrow.

The students have been learning about the history of Russia over the past week. We will be finishing Russia tomorrow and after Thanksgiving we will be moving on to East Asia. I hope everyone has a restful and relaxing time during Thanksgiving.

The students have been reading about the history of Russia in class by rotating in stations. There are 10 different time periods that students are reading about and then deciding if it is an economic, social, or political issue and then writing notes.

European Country Project

Students will have the opportunity to work in groups and research about several European countries. Each group will select 4 European countries and will begin researching about them today. We will spend several days in the computer lab.

Yesterday we started on our next unit over Europe. Students labeled a map of Europe yesterday and today we took notes over Germany. Next week we will begin the project over Europe.

The students began their researching today over their assigned country in South America. We will spend 2 more days in the computer lab so once the students have all their facts, they can then work on their poster, power point or other type of presentation that they have decided to do. The projects are due on Thursday and the students will present their projects to the class.

The students were introduced to their South America projects today. They each will be assigned a country and will research the list of items on the instruction page. We will be going to the computer lab next week and on Thursday the students will present their projects either on poster board, power point or any other way that they choose. Yesterday we started our next unit which is over South America. They colored and labeled a map yesterday and today we discussed some of the vocabulary, such as GDP and literacy rate. Tomorrow is picture day so we will be taking pictures during social studies. Later this week the students will be introduced to their South America project, which will require researching in the computer labs.

Homework this week

This week is considered Freedom Week and we will be celebrating it all week. Today we discussed the preamble and the students copied it into their notebook because on Friday, they will recite it for a grade. They were supposed to take their notebooks home in order to begin studying all week. Below I have attached a copy of the preamble so you can help your student memorize it for Friday.

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

Today the students finished taking notes over North America and tomorrow we will discuss Canada and the United States. On Wednesday, the anniversary of September 11, we will discuss and watch video from that day because these current 6th graders were not born when this happened or were very young.

Today in class we went over the rules and expectations for class. We also set up our notebooks for those students who had a notebook ready. If you didn't have a notebook today, please bring one tomorrow and I can get you caught up. Tomorrow we will continue to set up the notebooks and will begin discussing what geography is and how to study it correctly.

6th Grade Social Studies

Welcome to 6th grade social studies. In 6th grade, we will be learning about world geography. We will be studying different cultures from around the world.
