April 28

The students are continuing to research information on their South African countries. We spend today in the computer lab and will continue to research all this week. The project will be due on Monday, May 5th.The rubric for the project is below. It consists of 2 parts: an essay and then a section with information and facts.

Part I-Essay

You are to write an essay from the point of view of someone living in your country. You are to describe what it’s like there and what you see on a daily basis.

For example: “As I walk down the street, I see children starving. It makes me really sad.”
Or
“The rebels are always patrolling the street. It’s not uncommon to see their violence firsthand. Many of them are very young.”

Or something positive:

“My school is very small and there aren’t a lot of supplies but I still love getting an education. After school I see a group of children playing futbol which is our national sport but I can’t join them because I have work to do at home and then I have to study.”

Length Requirement: 2 1/2 Minutes (Every 30 seconds under costs you 10 points) Depending upon how fast you read, we’re talking somewhere between 250-450 words (1-1 ½ pages typed)

Topics to hit:
Diseases (Are there any major epidemics affecting the country?)
Living Conditions (Describe just how poor the country is if applicable)
Government (How is the country ruled?)
Religion (What religion does MOST of the country practice? Are there any conflicts because of religion?)
War (Are there rebels fighting? Civil war? At peace?)
Education (What is it like to go to school there?)

Once you have hit these required items, you can talk about anything you think we would want to know about.

Remember, you NEED to fill up 2 1/2 minutes with hard hitting material. If you need help, let me know. This does need to be grammatically correct (spelling and punctuation).

Due Date: Monday May 5, 2014

The essay will be worth 50 points and part II will be worth the other 50 points.
